Edward’s Story: “What Matters is Choosing the Option That Feels Right for You.”

Skin Cancer Fighter

Edward B. has seen his dermatologist annually for years, and during a recent visit, his doctor identified a suspicious spot just under Ed’s left eye. A biopsy confirmed it was basal cell skin cancer. With light eyes, hair, and skin, Ed feels fortunate that this was his first experience with skin cancer.

“I’d heard of Mohs surgery, but never GentleCure,” Ed shared. “I’m not big on needles and cutting, so even though it meant more frequent trips to the doctor’s office, I preferred a non-invasive option without a long healing process.”

Ed is passionate about outdoor sports and has always lived an active lifestyle. He enjoys golfing a couple of days a week, weather permitting, and plays indoors with friends during the winter. He has been a competitive runner and cyclist, has tried curling, and recently joined a rowing club.

“With GentleCure, the technology was outstanding, and my radiation therapist was outstanding.”

Ed speaks highly of his radiation therapist and the GentleCure® experience. “Like a lot of medical treatments, there’s the technology and then there’s the person who administers it,” he says. “If the clinician isn’t good, the experience isn’t good. With GentleCure, the technology was outstanding, and my radiation therapist was outstanding. She explained the process clearly, set expectations, and never made me feel rushed. She was great.”

With the ultrasound imaging used in GentleCure treatment, Ed could see his cancer shrink over time. “The C-word is scary,” he reflects. “I’ve had family members with different types of cancer, and my father passed away from cancer when I was in college. When you’re diagnosed, the doctors tell you what it is and what they suggest. Some people accept that immediately; others do more research. What matters is choosing the option that feels right for you. For me, I trusted my doctor, and I chose GentleCure.”

He experienced minimal side effects—just a small pink spot—and applied the hydrating, unscented lotion recommended by his radiation therapist. His skin handled treatment well, and today he is cancer-free.

Ed’s GentleCure appointments were about 25 minutes from home. His treatment schedule had him receiving three treatments a week. “I used those trips as opportunities to meet friends for lunch,” he says.

Throughout his athletic, professional, and personal life, Ed has valued teamwork and helping others. Today, he volunteers as a GentleCure Skin Cancer Fighter Ambassador, a group of individuals who have completed treatment and generously share their stories with newly diagnosed patients who want to speak with someone who’s been through the experience.
